Janet Coon seemingly does it all. Designer, photographer, blogger, and creator of Shabbyfufu.com, she started her website in 1999, and her popular blog soon followed. “The mission of my blog is taken straight from the way I live; I hope to inspire readers to live a comfortable life in their own homes, without much fuss or great expense,” says Janet.
Janet and her husband purchased their home in South Florida 20 years ago–remodeling and adding onto the dated, 70’s fixer-upper through the years. Her home has been featured in numerous design magazines including: Better Homes & Gardens, Cottage Style, Flea Market Style, Romantic Homes, Shabby Style, Flea Market Décor, and Romantic Country–just to name a few.
Janet says she “hugs” her own style when she’s designing her home. “It’s my style and I can’t even name it, but I’m comfortable and that’s what counts.”
“Embracing your own style allows you to feel better about your home, so you can seize the day.”–Janet Coon
“Wouldn’t life be boring if we all looked the same and liked the same things? In terms of the design world, I know with certainty that finding and embracing your own style is key to feeling comfortable in your ‘home skin’.”
Janet prefers stress-free entertaining and uses what she has on hand…
“We had a couple of people over and the weather is nice here at the moment, so I just grabbed my garden clippers and created an outdoor table.”
Janet, like many, aspires to the KonMari method of decluttering, based on Marie Kondo’s book, The Life-Changing Tidying Up. Janet says, “The KonMarie method of cleaning, organizing, and decluttering has definitely been a lifechanger.”
Shows and Tells
Besides simply showing photos, Janet also tells readers how to achieve the look. Her tutorials include painting, flower arranging, upholstering, and much more.
She uses what she has on hand to style her home in fresh, new ways.
Simple and fabulous.
NEXT WEEK, I interview Janet as she shares design ideas we can incorporate into our own style.
In the meantime, check out instructions on how to create this amazing vintage flower vase from a plastic florist’s bucket.
C’est magnifique!
