Thanks for asking…about MASKING. Everybody seemed to want to know more about daily masking after reading last week’s blog. Now Janna Beatty is offering 20% off any mask purchase when you order by July 31.*
Here are just a few of the questions that were brought up:
1. How can I find time to mask every morning?
It is a rare client who can reorganize her life to accommodate skin care. I prefer lifestyle skin care–that means skincare that fits into your daily routine. Just because a daily mask needs to be on three minutes, doesn’t mean you devote three minutes of your life to it. A mask takes only seconds to apply.
Here’s what I do: I keep my mask at my bedside table. In the morning when I wake up, my mask goes on my face before my feet hit the floor. (No, you do not need a mirror.)
Then I drink my coffee and go about my day. After I brush my teeth–which takes 2 minutes–I either hop in the shower or remove the mask with a wet cloth. This works best for my lifestyle. You can be the judge of what works best for yours.
2. What do you mean when you describe skin as dull? What is the difference between dull skin and dry skin?
Dullness can be caused by the accumulation of dead, flat surface cells that need to be removed–gently, by masking. If the top layer of our skin is really just lots and lots of dead surface cells, it looks ‘dull’ and we lose our glow.
Dullness is also equated with dehydration–which is loss of water in the top layers of the skin. (Even oily skin can be dehydrated.) Visualize a baby’s skin (soft and plump like grapes) compared to a grandma’s skin (dried and wrinkled like raisins).(This condition can be eliminated immediately by using EO Water, or Hydrating Comfort Mist.)
3. How can I reduce the appearance of large pores?
New clients consistently come to me asking for “makeup that won’t show their pores.” Reducing the appearance of large pores is not a makeup issue, it is a skin care issue.
Large pores always indicate a need to mask. The pores on your face should be the size of the pores on the inside of your forearm. When you eliminate surface cells, your pores will appear smaller.
4. How can I tell if my skin is losing elasticity?
I’m not trying to be funny here, but you will know. If your skin does not spring back into place as it once did, you are losing elasticity.
5. Can I alternate masks from day-to-day? Maybe use a purifying mask one day and a moisturizing mask the next? Absolutely. That’s the idea–to give your skin what it requires. Remember Your skin’s needs change regularly according to: age, activity level, medications/health, diet, weather, seasonal interior conditions/AC & heat. Be aware of that and don’t assume you can use the same products all year-round.
You can apply several masks on different areas of your face at once. Giving each area of your skin what it truly needs.
6. I’m not used to masking my face every day. Can I wash it one morning and mask the next? Will I still get benefits? Certainly. Benefits of our products are cumulative. But cells turn over regularly, not just every other day. And skin responds most efficiently to a static routine. Consistency is the real key to getting results.
People come to me regularly and confess to falling off the skin care wagon. When I get off track–say, while taking a vacation–I do a more serious catch-up mask when I get home, so I can pamper my skin.
If you pay attention to your skin, it will always tell you what it needs. It is truly a miraculous and magnificent organ!
