More specifically, have you ever tried on clothing under a tent in a field? That’s what I did this past weekend when I traveled to one of the largest outdoor flea market/antique fairs in Texas, known as “Roundtop.”
Twice a year, these pasturelands transform into a shopper’s paradise. I absolutely LOVE walking mile after mile, moving from tent to tent; shopping, scouting, and simply getting inspired.
A while back, I swore off buying clothing at flea markets. Can’t try them on. No full length mirrors. Just an okay from the sales girl that the outfit looks good. (And, of course the garment does look fabulous on the 25-year old sales girl that happens to be wearing it.)
Also, if you’ve ever traveled 100 miles from home for the day you know, it’s not easy to take back a flea market mistake.
But since I just wrote a blog on the color blush, I felt I had a duty to illustrate the point. That is: Blush really is considered a neutral, and by definition, neutral means “no.” So for most mature women, blush means no color.
According to my co-author, color expert Janna Beatty, I am a Light-Bright color type. My best colors are light, bright, clear colors. No muddy or saturated hues for me.
And neutral colors don’t add a thing…they get along, but they are technically impartial.
“Neutral colors are like Switzerland–they co-exist–but they don’t really get involved.”
Any color that is next to your face can either add to or detract from your natural coloring. It may be hard to tell, but this Light-Bright blue (which is one of my best colors) accentuates my skin tone and eyes, while the blush doesn’t add anything.
In fact, if I hadn’t been wearing the aqua earrings and my lipstick, while trying on the blush top, I would probably have disappeared all together. Yes ladies, I’ll do a lot for my readers, but I won’t go face-naked!
The point of these photos is that we need color. But not just any colors–our best colors.
Are you wearing your most flattering colors? Are you a Light Bright, Gentle, Muted or Contrast Color Type?
Shop with confidence in a tent, or anywhere. And think of all the money and frustration you’ll save. So when you get home, you won’t ask this question: “Why in the heck did I buy that?”
Now back to Round Top…
If you like bluebonnets, beer and bargains, you will flip over this amazing place.

I hope that you bought those boots!
Ha, ha. I already have boots, but if I didn’t, I’d definitely go for those!
Yesterday I steered my friend from Georgia who is visiting from purchasing a light peach colored shirt as it washed her out. She bought a bright coral one that looked fabulous on her. Wendy is ordering the book so she and her daughter can read it. She too is a light bright. She is so excited about this information as she often wondered why she found herself not liking clothes after purchasing them.
Thanks for another success story Q Style!
Thanks for your note, Lori.
We hope everyone can learn to ‘see’ themselves for clearly.
Color is so important.
