Your face is the communication center of your body. In QUINTESSENTIAL STYLE, we call the area from the top of your head to your shoulders “your personality pyramid.” It’s the easiest place to create a focal point for your signature style.
Think about the events and activities you are involved in from day-to-day: work, meetings, sitting at your computer, eating, socializing at cocktail hour. If most of us spend the majority of our time sitting down, doesn’t it make sense for us to pay attention to dressing and accessorizing from the shoulders up?
What if you are a student in class, having lunch with friends, or with co-workers at your desk? Others view you at eye level.
Begin to think “head first” when you dress. Use your hairstyle, makeup, accessories, and color to communicate–without saying a word.
Scarves express your style from the neck up.
Hats and hair accessories can convey your personality.
Add fun, sophistication, or elegance with pearls.
Wear flattering colors and interesting patterns.
Jewelry
Madeleine Albright, the first U.S. female Secretary of State, was a master at communication–with a little help from her brooches and pins. She wore solid suits most of the time when she met with world leaders. Since she sat, or stood in front of a podium at meetings and press conferences, her intentional jewelry choices always took center stage. She chose her pins wisely, to convey just the right message to listeners (mostly powerful men).
Glasses are also a good way to express your personality.
Guys can style their Personality Pyramids, too.
Men don’t have as many options as women in the accessorizing arena. And yes, Amal did look stunning at the royal wedding. But what about George? He has certainly learned to perfect his own ‘personality pyramid.’
Don’t you agree?
Think ‘head first’ when you know only half of you is going to be seen or photographed. Works every time!
