They call it “our MOST-LOVED top.” Hmmm. I don’t own this blouse, but I saw it advertised in a recent Karen Kane mail order catalog. And I wondered, WHY would this top be considered “most-loved” out of all the others in their collection?
The Five Star reviews say:
- “…elegant and fits beautifully.”
- “It’s nice for casual days, but can be dressy, too.”
- “…fits well and is very comfortable and flattering! It flows perfectly. Ive bought it in every color.”
- “Good fit and great quality.”
Here is the assortment of colors, as mentioned in the third comment:
WOULD YOU BUY IT? Let’s examine the color and line/design criteria a little further.
Positives:
- This top comes in an array of colors, so you most likely would have a good chance finding a truly complementary color.
- The V-neck is a universally flattering neckline.
- 3/4 length sleeves are also extremely flattering and can give coverage if needed. And the high/low sleeve detail adds interest.
- The diagonal cut in front visually lengthens the leg line, while being in back gives coverage there.
- The fabric looks lightweight. One review even stated that “if flows perfectly.”
- Seems versatile enough to wear casually or elevate for evening with accessories.
- It comes in petite sizes (if applicable).
Negatives:
- The price is $98 + shipping (but if you sign up for their email list, you can get 20% discount).
Sometimes it’s difficult to know whether an item that appears online–that you can’t see or try on–will work for you, so you have to trust reviews and your own personal list of pros and cons.
Also, ask yourself:
- Where will I wear this (work, running errands, church, club meetings, lunch with friends)?
- Does it fit my lifestyle TODAY? Will I wear it enough to warrant spending $100?
- Would I rather get something else that’s a little less pricey?
- Can I wear it in any season?
- Can I picture my own accessories coordinating with it?
- What is the return policy, if I decide not to keep it?
- Do I really think I’ll love wearing this?
That last question may not be able to be answered until you receive the item.
So many questions, but worth keeping in mind before clicking (or not clicking) the “buy now” button. Learn to be particular when purchasing. Be smart and recognize WHY this garment will serve you, and WHY it would be (or not be) a good investment.
All of us have made the mistake of ordering online or buying something in a store that we wish we hadn’t. When we do, the garment usually ends up hanging in our closet taking up precious space, because we really didn’t put enough thought into whether or not it would “bring us joy.” (As Marie Condo would say.)
I’ve decided to order this blouse in cobalt blue, because:
- It is my most complementary color
- I think it is versatile enough to wear for many occasions
- I like the cut and hope it is as flattering on me as it is on the model
- I don’t mind spending a little more if I can wear it year round. (Especially if I can get 20% off)
So, I bring you full-circle to my original question: Would You Buy this blouse? (Please comment below.)
I will let you know my verdict when it arrives. I’ll even send photos, and I would appreciate you telling me what you think.
I simply LOVE my readers!

I do think the blouse would be a good buy for all your positive reasons. And I do agree that it seems a little pricey as well……my thought is that perhaps looking locally at one of my favorite stores……. the “M”word…..you will run across this same blouse or very similar.
I love your blog. Thanks for always giving us thought provoking ideas.
Bev
Beverly,
I hope this post will encourage us all (especially me)to think a little more critically about clothing choices. Simply buying something because it’s on sale–or on trend–doesn’t tick enough boxes to make it a worthy purchase.
Unfortunately, I have been a victim of careless buying plenty of times.
Thanks for writing.
I love this blouse, but I am short (5′ when I stand tall) and a bit stocky. I wonder if the sleeves will swallow me, even in a petite. I haven’t shopped much in person in years. What are some stores to try? What is the M store? 😊 I am ready to shop and to party!
Dear Lucy,
The “M”store refers to Marshall’s. Marshall’s always has great deals, so Beverly suggested looking there for a similar style at a lower price.
Other stores that have petite sizes include: Chico’s, Soft Surroundings, Talbot’s, Dillard’s, Banana Republic, J Crew, and Land’s End.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for writing.
I have Muted coloring, so I would not buy it.
Even if it was on sale. I do like v necks very much and the sleeve length is very flattering.
Great Blog , good questions.
Cathy,
BRAVA to you for recognizing right away that none of these colors would be flattering on you! I’m so impressed. Once you know which shade and clarity of color work for you, it’s easy to weed out ones that DON’T WORK.. And that is half the battle.
Sounds like you have learned your perfect shades well.
Doesn’t it make shopping so much easier?
What fabric is the blouse made of? Any natural fibers? Was this environmentally sustainably made?
Will this go with at least three other clothing items I already own? Do I need it or just want it? What do I already own that I could use instead?
Wow, Meredith.
Good questioning. I bet you are a superb shopper!
