Do you ever feel confused when it comes to putting outfits together? Do you have a closet brimming with clothes, but often complain that you have nothing to wear? Popular fashion blogger Beth Djalali comes to the rescue this week with advice on what to do when you get ‘style stuck.’
Look for Inspiration
Beth says, “If you feel as if you’re in a rut there’s a solution for getting out of it. Sometimes all it takes is a little photo inspiration from a magazine or Pinterest. Or watch a YouTube video. There’s lots of advice out there.”
So I took Beth’s suggestion and here’s how I found inspiration by looking at images that appeared on her website, Style at a Certain Age.com and on her Pinterest Page.
Notice Beth wearing this amazing coral coat in three totally different ways? It got me thinking. If I have a fabulous jacket, why not pair it in an unconventional way; with dressy ankle pants, white jeans, or dark denim? Each look is spectacular. (Note the shoes she chose for each outfit.)
Using a little ingenuity can really stretch your wardrobe.

Start with a Closet Cleanse
Beth says, “Although, a good closet cleanse is always a first step to cultivating your signature style. Once it’s empty, then shop for the basics. The number one reason you can’t find something to wear is that you’re lacking the basics. Maybe that new shirt or dress you just bought doesn’t have the right shoes or handbag to go with it. And that’s what makes or breaks an outfit – the accessories. It’s almost impossible to put together a chic outfit without the basics. So tackle that first.”

Consult a Style Expert
Beth also says, “Don’t be afraid to consult with a style expert. Google is a great tool to find a stylist in your hometown. And many stylists now offer virtual sessions. So if you feel comfortable with that option – go for it.”
Even Fashion Bloggers need Inspiration
I asked Beth who inspires her with her sartorial choices. Her response: “My style muse at the moment is Giovanna Battaglia, the editor of Italian Vogue. That woman has flawless taste! And her use of color–Magnificient!”
When asked for some ‘pearls’ of wisdom for us as Women of a Certain Age, Beth obliges:
“Women of a Certain Age should know there is no expiration date on style. With that in mind let’s not fear aging, instead let’s embrace it. Let’s be authentic, let’s be genuine, let’s be kind, let’s find new adventures to embark upon.”
…If we do, then we’ll truly be beautiful inside and out. And it doesn’t hurt to add a little lipstick before we head out the door.”
Wow, sometimes you just can’t say it any better.
Thank you, Beth Djalali, for your insights, your inspiration, and for simply being quintessential “Beth.”
