At a Christmas luncheon this past week, several friends commented on my blog about adding a little fur to ‘chic’ up our winter-weather wardrobes. This is how the conversation went:
Jan: “But whenever I wear something around my neck, it seems to bulk me up.”
Carla: “I agree. Sometimes I look like I’ve lost my neck.”
Meredith: “Yeah, when I wear a scarf, it looks like someone stole my neck!”
So I began thinking about how to wear a scarf without bulking up or losing our necks.
The answer: Create a “V” with your scarf.
Why? Because, in case you haven’t read QStyle, Janna says that V-necks are universally flattering for every figure type. Why? Because a V-neck gives the illusion of elongating your neck.
And elongating = slimming. Go ahead…argue with that!
“V” is for very, very flattering.
You can give the illusion of a “V,” just by the way you tie your scarf. Look at the photos below. They actually create the “V,” without “bulking up” your neck. (Janna says an open neckline also communicates “approachability.”)
Even an infinity scarf can be positioned to create an elongating “V.”
You can also use accessories to create a “V.”
After I spoke to my friends, I was immediately reminded of the driver’s license photo I had taken last year. Since my birthday is in January, I inevitably wear a coat when I go down to the DPS to renew my license. Last year, not only was I wearing a coat, but I had a thick scarf tied around my neck.
Yikes, Meredith…someone stole my neck, too!
