One of my favorite quotes is from Irish author and playwright George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950):
“…if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas.”
Janna and I want to begin sharing ideas with you every other Wednesday, in hopes that you will share your ideas with us. We love it when we discover anything that makes life easier, more interesting, and, of course, more stylish.
Here’s what I decided to share this week:
Almay Eye Makeup Sticks
PROBLEM: You put the finishing touches on your makeup and run out the door. At the stop light, you glance in the mirror. YIKES…you see those pesky mascara dots above or below your eyelid. And, of course, you’re wearing waterproof mascara. So you end up yanking and pulling your eye, licking your finger to try and get the mascara spot off your face.
SOLUTION: ALMAY Oil Free Makeup Eraser Sticks ($5). These little Q-tips are filled with eye makeup remover. You snap off the top, and liquid drips down into the swab. Then simply wipe off those irksome spots with the moistened swab.
Snake Necklace Knockoff
Did you happen to see the Golden Globes? I always love to watch what the celebrities are wearing and see how they style their stuff. Anyway, I was intrigued by some of the ladies who had on what looked like a flexible necklace. It resembled a snake–quite chic. So I began looking for a knockoff necklace. I’m such a copycat.
Here’s what I found at Ross-Simons. This flexible necklace comes in gold or silver and can be twisted into several different shapes. You can even form it into a bracelet.
Personally, I think Jennifer Lopez might have stolen her look from Naomi Watts, who wore this stunning yellow gown and snake necklace to the Golden Globes last year. Oh well, I won’t mention anything.
My chic new cosmetic bag
Surprise! It’s a Zip lock.* I got this idea from Janna. Problem: Are you constantly rifling through your cosmetic bag trying to find a lipstick or compact? Solution: a see-through bag. It may not be the most stylish, but it’s probably the cheapest. And you can replace it whenever you want–just go to your kitchen drawer and get another! Cost: about 10 cents each.
*Apparently Zip Loc brand is not carrying the slider bags anymore. You’ll have to go to Hefty or your local brand (mine is HEB). I prefer the thicker, quart-size freezer bags.
So, as George Bernard Shaw said, “…if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange ideas, then each of us will have two ideas.”
Please share your ideas with us. (qstylethebook@gmail.com) We may not be able to post all of them, but we will certainly try.
Thanks, George, for your great idea–about ideas!

Thank you for the ideas!! As soon as I come across a novel one I’ll let you know. I believe Janna already shared the idea I found about using large buttons (random ones we all have and dump in a bag – at least I do, especially replacement ones that come with many clothing pieces). When you travel, instead of putting all your earring into a bag or box all jumbled together, put the hooks or post through the holes in a button, put the back fastener on the earrings, and you have matched pairs rather than a mess you have to search through. I think it also keeps the earrings, especially the wire hooks from tangling and bending!
Diane,
I will have print this one. Your button idea is great.
You already have a fan.
Sharon
This button idea is really great!
I agree, Donna. I’ll put Diane’s idea in the next blog!
I love sharing ideas! I definitely have to find some of those Almay Eye Makeup Remover sticks. That definitely fills a need in my life!
Jerri,
They are an absolute lifesaver. Thanks for writing.
