Holiday Parties and Home Tours Give Us the BEST Decorating Ideas
December 10, 2021

Have you noticed there’s a whole lot more merrymaking going on this holiday season? It’s evident in the elaborate decorations and plethora of holiday parties.

Homes give us a glimpse into the personalities of the owners. And it is here where brilliant ideas can be shared.

Start with the DOOR

Nutcrackers can be whimsical, colorful, fun…

Or chic, sophisticated, and formal
If I were a child, this is where I’d want to come!

Whimsical Snowmen Are Stars!

And remember, snowmen can stick around long into the cold days of winter, when we all definitely need a little whimsy.

Jewel Tones Steal the Show

Think outside the box when decorating. Red and green aren’t the only colors of the season.

Turquoise nutcrackers tied on ginger jars.
Victorian tree featuring turquoise peacocks.

Over-the-Door Swags

What do you do with all those extra ornaments? There’s no way your tree can hold all of them. Friend Debbie creates amazing swags over her doors and windows, each encrusted with a themed ornament collection.

What do you do with so many kids’ ornaments…Here you go!
Christmas colors meld perfectly with black and white toile.
Don’t forget the kitchen window. A collection of reindeer fly over the sink.
Snowmen gather on this swag.

More Brilliant Ideas…

Themed t-towels hang on an old shutter in this laundry room…Brilliant!
A Nativity in a telephone niche…Brilliant!
A FLAT (half) tree in a narrow hallway…Brilliant!
Don’t forget the bar. Just add a few holiday accoutrements. Brilliant.
Just a little Santa in an unexpected place. Brilliant! (I love the quote above the loo.)
A candle in the window of this beautiful country home. Brilliant.
Holiday pillows are always a brilliant idea!

Why do we love to peek inside other peoples’ homes? Because every home gives us a glimpse into the lives and styles of the individuals who reside there. In the same way clothing reveals the personality of the wearer.

So let’s get on with the rejoicing, decorating, and partying. After the year of isolation and disappointment we’ve had, we relish the idea of reconnecting.

Wishing all my lovely readers the best holiday EVER!

And many thanks to my sweet friends who allowed me to photograph their amazing holiday homes!

I enjoyed the “tour” of homes and the creative ways your friends decorate for Christmas. This is one of my favorite times of the year as well.

    Laura,
It is truly a monumental year to celebrate (and decorate)! I believe the most beautiful homes aren’t the biggest ones with the fanciest decorations, but the ones that–when you walk in–whisper humbly, “we share our spirit of love and joy to all who enter in.”
    Merry Christmas.
