Recently, while dressing windows at my hospital’s gift shop, I observed a glaring sight–or should I say, a glaring oversight–when I outfitted my mannequins. What was it, you ask? It’s not what it was–exactly. It’s what It WAS NOT.
What’s Missing?
Of course, you know the answer.
THE ACCESSORY.
My co-author, Janna Beatty, refers to accessories as “n

As we discuss in the book, comfort level, appropriateness, and intention all play key roles when it comes to fashion decisions.
But, imagine how you could individualize your look by adding texture, color, or shine with accessories. I bet you have great pieces in your closet right now. “Any embellishment that creates a focal point or transforms the mood of the outfit can be considered an accessory.” (page 54) Scarves, earrings, necklaces, hair accessories, bracelets, and hats can create that
I know we’re not going out as much as we used to, but when we do, let’s make our look special.
One phrase I’ve heard to beat the doldrums is: “Get up, Get dressed, and Get Out.” Even if it’s only to the grocery store.
Let’s all go out with a little panache. Reach into your closets and find those pieces that have been gathering dust. The ones you REALLY love–the ones that are so very “YOU.”
Now that’s SIGNATURE STYLE!

That is your hospital gift shop? I want to shop there! Love that plaid wrap and all the goodies you paired the clothing with. Thanks for the uplifting post!
Yes, Sharon,
I live in Temple, Texas, and the gift shop is at Baylor Scott and White gift shop. So many treasures. Come take a look!
I’ve been traveling for the last 2 weeks and I only take 1 suitcase. I’m limited on accessories. I brought 2 necklaces. I wore a solid blue Necklace with a floral printed shirt. I wore my Light/Bright “Everything” necklace with a bright blue top, a red top and a turquoise top. It brightened up every one of them. My only problem was I also brought dangle earrings and they just don’t work very well when you take masks off and on.
If anyone doesn’t know what an “everything” necklace is, it is a necklace containing complementary colors (stones), based on your specific color type. My co-author creates these original pieces. For example, she can make a necklace for you based on your color type that you can wear with pretty much everything. (If any of you would like to order one, you can email my co-author Janna Beatty at uru@grandecom.net)
Thanks for writing, Janet. Have a great time!
