Tuesday was the first day of Spring. But the runways in NYC, Paris, Milan and London just wrapped up their FALL FASHION shows. I finally put away my sweater boxes, in search of pastels for Easter. But all I’m seeing on the fashion pages are winter coats.
My co-author, Janna Beatty, was recently interviewed on ABC. She told her audience that fashion trends in magazines and runway shows are six months ahead of the current season. And to complicate matters, there are now ‘micro bursts’ in fashion. We’re being bombarded with every little fashion craze that celebrities and bloggers come up with.
Janna says, “Previously there were three style seasons: Spring/Summer, Fall/Winter, and Holiday. But now designers are producing and introducing fashion trends year round. “Fashion is speeding up and speeding up. It’s a trend in itself… it’s called FAST FASHION.”

So how is the average gal supposed to keep up with Fast Fashion when we are already six months behind? Janna says if you only buy two fashion magazines all year, you should buy the September issue (for upcoming Spring fashions) and the March issue (for upcoming Fall fashions).
Don’t expect to find Spring fashions in this month’s issue of In Style magazine. Editors have already moved on to the Fall trends.
To help you determine which trends are right for you, Janna recommends:
- Developing your personal style. (Focus on what looks good on you–and why.)
- Discovering what you love. (If a trend is perfect for you–stock up on it while it’s hot.)
- Adding items to your wardrobe only if they are perfect for you and your lifestyle.
“Think of fashion trends as being a smorgasbord. You wouldn’t go to a buffet and eat every single thing on it. The same with trends –Keep focused on only what works for you…and why.” … Janna Beatty

Sharon, I just love yours and Janna’s fashion tips. What always sticks with me is to focus on what looks good on us and what we like. Just because something is in style does not mean that we should buy and wear it. I am not a fashionista but so many times I see people wearing something that’s in style and it does not flatter them at all.
