What do Gayle King, Savannah Guthrie, Jenna Bush Hager, and Sharon Osborne all have in common? They use a Personality Pyramid to express their quintessential style. Because when they’re working, all you see is the upper third of their bodies.
What is a Personality Pyramid?
If you’ve read Quintessential Style, you know that the area from the top of your head to your shoulders is considered your personality pyramid and it’s the easiest place to express your unique style.
For many of us, much of our day is spent sitting down. Think about your daily activities: drinking coffee, eating meals, typing on the computer, working behind a desk, having cocktails with friends, or in front of a camera.
Take a Look at these photos of one of my favorite TODAY SHOW co-hosts — darling Jenna Bush Hager. What do you notice? When she’s on camera, only the top third of her body is visible.
Jenna dresses from the shoulders up, and has learned to showcase her incredible style using a PERSONALITY PYRAMID
I recently published an article for Tex Appeal magazine stressing the importance of keeping the PERSONALITY PYRAMID in mind when dressing. Here are some images my daughter illustrated for the article.

Love this post, Sharon! Such a great tip to dress from the top down – starting with your personality pyramid. Thanks so much!
Judy,
I guess it all depends on how you’ll be spending your day. That’s how you can determine what you want the focal point of your dressing to be. (If you are sitting behind a desk all day, and no one will see those killer heels, I’d opt for something more comfortable.)
Sharon—
Your illustrator is outstanding! No surprise to me, though!
Nancy,
I will tell her you said so.
Thanks for writing.
