Accessories, accessories, accessories…too many to choose from. But there’s one accessory I’d never dream of leaving home without. It’s not a handbag, lipstick, or high heels. Nor is it expensive. In fact, the most valuable accessory I own doesn’t cost a dime.
You’ve figured it out…It’s a SMILE!
Let’s face it, you can put on the chicest, most elegant, most expensive, outfit in the world, but if you don’t have a smile to go with it, what’s the point?
On the other hand–you’ll find–if you add a smile, it will enhance absolutely anything else you put on.
Smiling is a choice. And it takes effort (using over 15 facial muscles). For some, smiling doesn’t come naturally.
“When someone smiles at you, how does it make you feel?”
In Quintessential Style, we say: Dressing is all about nonverbal communication. So is smiling! A happy expression speaks volumes without us ever uttering a word. It is positive validation that crosses every age and language barrier.
What are you communicating with your smile (or lack of one)?

Very true! A smile makes a huge difference !
Jan,
Singer Bob Marley is quoted as saying, “The most beautiful curve on a woman’s body is her smile.”
That is so very true!! Smiles make others happy and it is so easy to do! Smiling is a gift to the recipient and the giver.
I read a poster in a medical technician’s office this past week “The most beautiful thing a person can wear is a smile!” – what a lovely coincidence to this blog! Loved this – thank you, Sharon
Sometimes we forget that such a little thing can mean so very much!
That reminds me of the Brownie Smile song:
“I’ve got something in my pocket
It belongs across our my face
I keep it very close at hand, in a most convenient place
I’m sure you couldn’t guess it if you guessed a long long while.
So I’ll take it out and put it on,
It’s a great big Brownie smile.”
I love it!
I recently had to have a passport photo taken, and you are not allowed to smile. I looked very old without a smile on my face. It aged me! Sally Jordan
Oh dear, Sally. Yes, I had heard that about the new passports. Just another reason to keep smiling—it makes us look younger!
Thanks for writing.
