Looking for ways to amp up your ‘chic’ factor? Just because we’re not in our twenties doesn’t mean we can’t look on-trend while still keeping comfort and practicality in the forefront. Here are three ways to update your look, no matter your age. I’d like to say they are new and innovative, but what goes around comes around again…as most of us know.
Sneakers
Sneakers aren’t new, by any means, but lately everyone of every age has been spotted wearing them–and they’re not just for walking and exercising. Add a pair of sneakers to a sundress, jeans, or leggings and you’ll look as though you just stepped out of the pages of European Vogue.
Remember those comfortable slip-on Keds we all used to wear? Dig those cuties out of your closet and plant them back on your feet.
Converse is another brand that has made its way back to us. They don’t have to be high tops to be cool.
And the best part about sneakers is: comfort. The rounded toe gives plenty of wiggle room and the tie-laces and rubber soles guarantee sure footing.
A Big Watch
Many of us still wear a watch, as opposed to millennials, who rely on their cell phones for time–and just about everything else. The problem is that reading tiny numbers might not be as easy as it once was. So a larger watch may be the answer. Not only is it stylish, but the hands are more visible.
Try layering your watch with some of your other bracelets for a truly timeless look.
Sunglasses
Sunglasses have always been cool. But we need them even more as we age, to protect our eyes from harmful UV rays and help prevent those pesky squint lines. Sunglasses can also be an uber-chic accessory, no matter where you’re going. Take a look:
And remember ladies, you can even find sunglasses with “reader” lenses!
Millennials might think they know a lot (and they do). But, we have the inside scoop. Everything old is NEW again. And great accessories never go out of style.
Do you have ideas for keeping your look updated and fresh? Please share them with us (below). We love hearing from YOU!

Sharon,
Love this post. Great reminders about how simple touches — new and/or new/old — can make the chicest difference. I’m pulling out my big watches again, my Converse sneakers, and a pair of older sunglasses that I haven’t worn for a while. Thanks for the reminder!
Judy,
I was in London a few months ago and everyone was wearing sneakers–with everything! So fresh. And lucky for us, they’re comfortable, too!
I still have a couple of my “boho” dresses that I bought in San Francisco when I lived there during my 20s. One is a maxi sundress and the other has beautiful embroidery on it. I have never been able to part with them because they are associated with such good memories. Now they are right back in style!! I also have a cute sundress that belonged to my mother in the 1950s. Bona fida retro!! Every time I wear these dresses I get compliments. And, they are so comfortable!! I wish I could post a photo of them, but I don’t know how to do that. How do I post photos to your blog?
Betty,
If you will send me your photos via email (swhite4818@aol.com), I can post them on QStyle’s FB page. Thanks so much. Isn’t it true–if an outfit truly captures our essence, it will never go out of style. Thanks for writing.
