What one detail can add pizzaz, femininity, and allure to an outfit? A voluminous sleeve. Big sleeves are back. And they’re BOLDER than ever.
On a recent shopping trip to Steinmart with my friend, Carla, we saw this stylish trend everywhere. And what better way to move us from the chilly days of winter to the spring days to come with a little coverage and a LOT of panache!
What else?
We also saw a lot of dramatic high/low hemlines.
And, as Miranda Priestly from “The Devil Wears Prada” would say:
“Florals…for Spring? …Groundbreaking”
Carla even found a nautical outfit for her granddaughter with sleeve detailing!
Update your spring wardrobe with some flouncy sleeves, and you’ll be stylishly ready for SPRING!

Great Blog from a Fun Shopping Trip! LOVE those sleeves!!!
Carla,
We think shopping should be F-U-N …right?
I want to go next time!
Will do, Beverly.
This is really interesting info! I love great sleeves. Thinking about pulling out some of my old patterns and seeing what I can do to follow this trend!
Marianne,
Remember the 80’s puffed sleeves? I think the trend for big shoulder pads might be just around the corner, too! Thanks for writing.
Fun post. My friend and I were recently at Steinmart, too. Saw lots and lots of bright colors. I’ll have to go back and check out all the sleeves. It was fun seeing pictures of you, Sharon. You look as cute as ever. xoxo
Judy,
We have very few Steinmarts open in Texas. Most have closed their doors. And what a shame–we LOVE their fashion and their prices! Thanks for your compliments. I don’t usually do “dressing room” diaries, but I couldn’t resist showing readers the fun stuff at Steinmart!
I enjoyed this post. As it happens, I was shopping in Austin on Saturday and bought three blouses for spring/summer. One of them has sleeves with a flounce, so I am happy to know I will be in style! Ha! Ha! Seriously, I think I like this more feminine look! It is a nice change.
Sherry,
If you LOVE it, you will always feel good. No matter if it’s in style or not! So happy to help.
Hi Sharon, you said to go shopping and update our spring wardrobe, so I did just that!! haha I had already ordered 3 beautiful tops from three different catalogs when a couple of friends asked me to go to Marlin with them to this fabulous dress shop, Lauren’s! Yes! Marlin!! haha I said ok since we were going to have lunch at Green’s sausage house! I don’t think that’s the correct spelling. I told them that I wasn’t going to buy anything since I had already bought three new tops. So I walk in the shop and my mind was blown! There were all these fabulous blouses, tops, jackets, etc. hanging there with my name on them!! haha I came away with three very beautiful tops and a knit jacket, most in black and white!! AND they are the high/low style! I am obsessed with this style. It is perfect for my body type! I’ve decided to buy up enough of that style to carry me through the next ten years! I figure at 80 years old, I’d have 10 good years of dressing up! (and then I’ll buy fancy pj’s!) And if I love something, I don’t have a problem wearing something that’s ten years old!!!
Hilde,
Hooray for you. It’s such a great day when you can find styles that are perfect for your body and that you actually LOVE! Thank you for writing!
