Remember those petite ice cream glasses our grandmothers had? They were adorable. Not to mention, they kept our portion sizes down. No one seems to use them anymore. (Now we have ice cream BOWLS.) These days you can easily find ice cream and parfait glasses at antique shops, garage sales, and flea markets.
Recently I found some at TUESDAY MORNING when I was looking for inexpensive bridal luncheon favors for 25 ladies. The luncheon’s theme was gold and white. Hmmm…What to do? How about white flower arrangements, using ice cream glasses?
Here’s how I made them:
What you need:
- Waterproof floral tape (Hobby Lobby or Michael’s)
- Ice cream glass or small similar glass
- Smallish flowers (e.g., roses, baby’s breath, alstroemeria, carnations, work well)
Step 1: Create a grid using the waterproof tape. Then fill glass with water.
Step 2: Cut your flowers short and arrange in grid from inside out.
Step 3: No step 3–just enjoy!
After the flowers are gone, use the glass to hold candy, paperclips, lipsticks, or any little thing. My clever and creative friend Kathryn told me she uses her ice cream glasses to keep wire-back earrings together. Great idea–beauty and utility.
In case you were wondering, the bridal shower was a huge hit. Everyone wore white and gold.
And in case you were wondering what the tray on my end table says:
I usually can’t read this quote, because my husband and I keep our reading glasses in this tray.
Hey, HOW TO STYLE A TRAY…what a good idea for a blog.
p.s. Kathryn says her flowers are still looking good.

Sharon, I loved this post. Great Idea!!! I am going to Hobby Lobby/Michaels and get some of that tape right now. Who knows when you might need it. You are a treasure!!!!
Beverly,
You can also use this technique for larger bowls, too. Remember those ‘glass frogs’ our grandmothers used to have? They had holes in them and you’d place the flowers in the holes to create an arrangement. This is the same idea, only using tape.
Wow…our grandmothers had everything.

What lovely ideas…From the best!
Thanks, Jeannie.
Tiny treasures! What a precious memory…wish I could have been there. Really appreciate the detailed instructions..seems very doable!
And you can use the cup later…that’s the bonus.
Thanks for writing.

Girls, I really love the blogs!
Hugs to both of you!

Thanks, Donna.
Love hearing from you.
Lovely idea. I have about 50 sherbet dishes with plates that I collected many years ago. Guess I need to get a few out and experiment.
Yes, Judy. Do it!
That waterproof clear tape you get at craft stores is great. It can turn any container into a vessel for flowers and keeps them upright. Thanks for writing.
