“IT’S NOT QUANTITY THAT COUNTS…IT’S WORKABILITY.” This is the quote that introduces Chapter 6 of Quintessential Style. Is your closet a river or a Dead Sea? Meaning: Do you bring garments, shoes, and accessories into your closet on a regular basis, but never discard anything? Join the masses, ladies. We are ALL guilty.
Here’s the myth: A huge quantity of clothing does not guarantee a great wardrobe.
In a recent interview with ABC’s Ann Harder, my co-author Janna Beatty, talks about the value and convenience of a well-engineered closet.
Imagine your closet–just as it is–at this very moment:
- Is it supporting the lifestyle you’re living right now?
- Do you consistently have what you need at your fingertips?
- Is it helping or hindering your ease of dressing?
- Do your clothes fit and flatter?
- Do you love wearing them?
- Do they bring you happiness?
Your wardrobe is your own personal collection. Do you think of it that way?
The Golden Rule Janna gives her clients during a closet intervention is:
Have nothing in your closet that you cannot put on and wear right now!
Women are either ‘weeders’ or ‘keepers’. Can you easily access things you wear on a daily basis, or is your closet jam-packed with clothes you don’t wear or haven’t gotten rid of?
Your closet should afford you the simplicity and ease of dressing you deserve.
Your closet should be an intimate and inviting space. After all, it’s the place where you begin your day every morning.
Let us know your closet story.

The state of my closet is somewhere between a river and the Dead Sea. At least a couple of times a year I try to clean it and donate items I no longer need. I would like to be more disciplined about it and keep it up all the time! Maybe one day!!
Sherry,
Professional organizer Lita Daniel says, ” “We will always have some degree of clutter in our lives. The important thing is that your space is functional, and you feel good about it.” Wow…I love that statement.
