For Salado boutique owner Darla Reeder, changing seasons is even more exciting for her than for most. Darla views the latest style trends–in showrooms and from market vendors–many, many months before they ever appear on her racks.

You could say, she has exclusive access to the latest fashions and trends before anyone else. I took a trip to Darla’s boutique, Susan Marie’s of Salado, to chat with her about “what’s in” this spring.
First, and foremost, Darla says, “I understand that style is totally individual. And oftentimes the latest trend is not in your personal comfort zone. For example, we are seeing a lot of wide-leg pants and ‘barrel jeans’ this season, but that doesn’t mean that skinny jeans are out. It’s all about personal preference.”

Of course, color is always big for spring.

Stripes are a perennial favorite. (And, you can find vertical stripes, too, if you’re not a horizontal stripe gal.)

Pearl accents add a bit of panache to classic pieces.

“Casual, cotton dresses with the ‘Coastal Grandma’ vibe remain very popular, because they can be dressed up or down. And they are so comfortable,” says Darla.

“Bold and mixed metal jewelry is a BIG trend this season, too,” says Darla.

These earrings by Brighton illustrate the mixed metal look. Darla carries a variety of Brighton Jewelry in her shop.

If you are in the mood for a spring refresh (and perhaps a glass of wine), visit Darla at her store on South Main in Salado.
Thank you, Darla for your style-savvy, spring insights!
