There’s something magical about this season that seems to put us in the mood for ‘sparkle’. But why buy something new for your holiday events when you can amp up the bling on pieces you already have in your closet?
Add Some Shine To Your Shoes
No one can deny that a glamorous pair of shoes can make a gal feel fabulous. I recently visited Sarah Jessica Parker’s chic shoe boutique–SJP–at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. Here are some of Sarah Jessica Parker’s glitzy shoes.
Then I remembered my grandmother’s vintage shoe clips and decided I’d make some, to bling up my own shoes.
You need two inexpensive brooches or large crystals, flat earring clips, and hot glue. Simply remove the back of the pin. Then glue the brooch onto the ear clip. Voila a chic shoe clip.
Turn these into these —————->
Dust off Your Brooches
Where are your brooches hiding? ‘Tis the season to sparkle. And if one pin looks good, imagine the impact three will have. I love to cluster my pins together on a coat, dress, clutch bag, or even a pillow. Holidays are the time to pull out all the pins.
Or wear your pins in very unexpected ways.
Create Your Own Statement (Necklace)
As you know, I get much of my inspiration from mail order catalogs. Recently I saw this picture in a Dillard’s holiday brochure.
It prompted me to go to my own closet and see what I could put together that would give me the same dazzling results.
YIKES! I’m spending Thanksgiving in Chicago this week with my daughter and I can’t go to my closet. So you will just have to wait until I get home to see what I found.
In the meantime, go to your own closets and see what YOU find. Just pile on the crystals, pearls, gold chains, colored stones, and whatever else looks great together.
I’d love to see the ‘statement necklaces’ you create using pieces from your own collection. Just email me at swhite4818@aol.com with a photo of your piece.
Can’t wait to hear from YOU!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Hi Sharon, I still have fancy shoe clips that I dressed up my shoes, maybe 40 years ago! I’m not sure when, but it could have been when I still lived in Little Rock about that time! I also own about 35 broaches, not counting all of my Christmas pins!! I always use the Christmas pins on my sweaters and hats each year! I really love them!
Hilde,
I would love to see those vintage shoe clips. I bet they are amazing!!
So inspirational as I’ve wondered what to do with my vintage earrings. Thanks Sharon
