Fashion Flashback: the 70’s
February 28, 2016

Girls, remember wide-leg pants, bodysuits, midis, and blouses with bows? Well, unbelievably they’re back. They may have been tweaked a bit. But that’s what designers do.  Take a look:

High-waisted, wide-leg pants.

Bodysuits

images-187I happen to like bodysuits. They keep everything tucked.

Plus, I always feel like a dancer when I wear them.

The bow-blouse goes way back. This scene from Downton Abbey was set in 1925.

Perhaps television has influenced the bow blouse.

Make any blouse bow-chic by adding a scarf.

Mixing denim. Apparently denim never goes out of style. The secret to wearing denim-on-denim is to vary the shades. No matchy match.

Even guys are doing it.

Girls in their twenties probably think all these are fresh, super-chic ideas. But you and I know the truth: Fashion is like a merry-go-round — sooner or later, everything circles back again.

Now that’s a flash from the past.

Those of us with older necks will likely love the bow blouse–what a nice wrinkle cover!!

Loved this Sharon! Secretly I save some “old fashions” that I really liked, because I always think that it might just come back again 🙂 ! I try them on when I’m closet cleaning to make sure they still fi, and if so, they go back in the “save” closet!!

Diane, I’m so impressed that they still fit. Some things are worth saving! Sharon

Style magazine, which is included in the Sunday New York Times, ran an arcle on February 1st about the return of the shag haircut. When I think about the shag, I always think of Jane Fonda in Klute. Wish I sll had the body that I had in the 70’s!

Oh my goodness, Nancy. Wasn’t the shag the haircut Farrah Fawcett had? I’ve heard rumors that the mullet may be coming back, too. Yikes!

I remember the bow blouses. Nancy Reagan always seemed to have one. That would be more early 80’s. I love the bows especially when they are on the shoulder. I use a scarf to make a bow, but they always slide down to the center unless I pin them on my shoulder. Any suggestions? I’m usually using silk or polyester which is a little slippery.

I remember Nancy in bow blouses too, Janet. She always looked so lady-like. Even though she was petite, the bow blouse never overpowered her. Thanks for writing.
