Popular style blogger Susan Street has always loved fashion, but at age 58, she uses a different set of guidelines to style an outfit rather than search for inspiration from the runway or from the young models featured in magazines. She has learned to adapt current fashion trends to fit her figure, her lifestyle, and her budget.

“Fashion is unspoken communication,” says Susan. “I want my style to say I’m a professional woman with an awareness of trends, while remaining appropriate, approachable and interesting.”

But Susan admits she wasn’t always the svelte stylish woman she is today. Back in 2011, she lost 40 pounds, by adopting a vegetarian diet. But along with losing the weight, came the daunting task of creating a new wardrobe.

Susan says that buying new clothes might seem like fun, but it wasn’t. She found herself leaving store after store empty-handed, because she simply could not find attractive, age-appropriate clothing.

“I started studying current styles and reading lots of articles, in an effort to create a timeless wardrobe that would fit well with my busy lifestyle.” She says her blog was born out of those efforts. “If I was having such trouble finding appropriate clothing in midlife, perhaps others could benefit from the expensive lessons I learned.”

Today Susan has thousands of followers at Fiftynotfrumpy.com.  Which only goes to show that just because a woman is in the second chapter of her life, it doesn’t mean she has to close the book.
