A few weeks ago, I wrote a blog about jewelry trends from the 1990’s coming back en vogue. I got a bit of flack from readers saying, “I don’t follow fashion trends.” Well, that really wasn’t the point of the blog. The point was, Do you still have any pieces from that era?
I questioned whether any of you had kept some of your accessories from that decade. (Because I have a hard time getting rid of jewelry myself, I actually did keep some.)
Fast forward to yesterday when I received a mail order catalog, and lo and behold all the accessories I noticed were the ones listed in my blog.
My point is: Don’t go out and buy anything before you shop in your own jewelry box (or closet) for vintage accessories.
Large gold link chains, chokers, big hoops, and wide bangles. (Not to mention, BIG hair, animal print, and large sunglasses.) All these images came from the most recent Boston Proper catalog.
Trendy or Timeless?
If you are lucky enough to find vintage items in your own closet, YOU get to decide if you still feel comfortable wearing them. Are they trendy or are they timeless?
Here’s an image of Brooke Shields in a checked blazer (photo credit Getty) from 1982 next to the a current catalog cover from Talbot’s.
I found these earrings and this necklace from twenty-five years ago. For me, they’re quite timeless.
You know who you are…today. You–and only you–get to define your quintessential style.
And here is a new favorite quote from stylist/co-author, Janna Beatty.
You are a multilayered, magnificent person. It is impossible to dress or look as wonderful or as interesting or as capable as you truly are…But have fun trying! … Janna Beatty

Love the blog today. I also have a hard time getting rid of jewelry. In fact I kept a number of pieces of my mom’s jewelry which I love to wear and feel they are timeless. It never seems they are out of season.
Wear it if it makes you feel “beautiful “!!!
Love that quote: “Wear it if it makes you feel ‘beautiful'”
Thanks for reminding us, Beverly.
