Last weekend I volunteered at a Yuletide Stroll as a fundraiser for our local Children’s Museum. My friend, Jan, offered her home for the event. Here are some of her brilliant decorating ideas.
Begin With the Outside
Layer your decorations.
Jan used white batting for snow, then added lights, followed by Santa, reindeer, and sleigh.
Notice a sprig of lights coming from the sleigh.
Layering in the dining room…
Jan used a piece of faux white fur (from Hobby Lobby) as a runner for her dining room table. Topped with tiny lights and lighted orbs (all battery powered).
She added silver, white, and crystal decorations before placing large reindeer as the focal point.
For one last elegant touch, Jan hangs snowflakes from her chandelier.
Use Tiny, Battery-powered Lights
Jan replaced the fruit she usually puts in these tall glass containers with lights, snow, and small ornaments.
The lights are remote controlled, so she doesn’t have to stick her hand in the snow every time she wants to light them. Genius!
(Lights available at Pier One Imports.)
Here a string of small round lights resembles snowballs.
(Notice fur piece looks like snow.)
Add a bow…
Or a poinsettia…
Jan adds sprigs of silk poinsettia to plants she already has.
Make it personal.
Stockings personalized with photo ornaments.
Don’t forget the reason for the season.
Thank you, Jan, for sharing your amazing home and your decorating ideas with us.
Happy Holidays!

Beautiful home! Love the way she incorporates red and family heirlooms into her decor. I was in Violet Okeson’s lovely home yesterday for our Women’s Wednesday Club’s Christmas Tea-the home and decor was spectacular!
Jill,
I love the way personal (quintessential) style is expressed–even through the decor in our homes.
Beautiful home! Thank you for sharing, Sharon!
Happy holidays, Terry.
The decor is simply beautiful and tastefully done. Thanks for sharing with us.
Lita,
Sometimes we think we have to go out and purchase decorations, when just a bow or poinsettia will do!
Thanks for writing.
