Sometimes when a trendy accessory goes around and finally “comes around” again, we may have actually saved that item. And if you–like me–keep a lot of costume jewelry, it’s time to pull it out.
According to VOGUE, this year’s jewelry trends are reminiscent of the 80’s and 90’s. So, go to your closet, rummage through that shoe box of zip-loc bags, and see if you can find some vintage pieces that you can wear right now. Vintage can be defined as older than 20 years (but less than 100).
Large Cuff/Bangle Bracelets
Not only are they big, but you can stack them. (photo credit Getty images)
Mixed Metals
Don’t worry if the silver and the gold don’t match. Mixed metals work together.
Chokers
Gold, silver, leather, or fabric. (Although, my neck isn’t the same size as it was 25 years ago.)
Pearls
Really Large Hoops
Chunky Chains and Statement Necklaces (or Layer Necklaces to look more substantial)
Oversized Earrings

Flower Earrings
Again, dainty is “out” and larger is “in.”
The photo above is recent. It only looks retro.
Bows … in your hair, as a belt, or as jewelry
Brooches
One of my personal favorites–brooches can be clustered, or wear a large geometric for a statement look.
I’m so curious to know if any of you have “vintage” pieces similar to these. I’m going to raid my shoebox. And next week, I will present my findings.
The big question is, will I feel comfortable wearing something I wore confidently 25 years ago–or has my style changed, and I no longer gravitate to the look?
Let me know what you girls think.

I never discard jewelry. I don’t pay too much attention to Vogue. I have vintage pieces from the time period you mentioned, and still enjoy wearing them. Betty
Betty,
I think that if you love it, you should wear it–no matter the trend.
Janna says, “finding an accessory that is truly YOU, will give you years of wearing pleasure.”
Thanks for writing.
I have kept a few pieces of large chunky variety, I would wear pearls of all variety , but not so much the large bracelets, isnât interesting how the style eventually makes a circle back đ
Renee,
That old adage is really true. The style might not come back exactly like it originated, but sooner or later everything old is “new” again.
It’s also true that if you didn’t like the trend the first time around, you probably won’t like it now–unless your style has shifted.
Thanks for your comment!
I have always loved and worn big earrings and bracelets. I had cut back a bit on larger necklaces, but now I will be pulling them all out!!!!! Yay!
Sharon B.,
(I write this because I know you.) I actually thought of you when I mentioned BIG hoops/earrings and chokers. They fit your style anytime!
