Restoring Our Faith in Humanity
September 1, 2017

When I taught school, during times of disaster or tragedy I always reminded my kids to ‘look for the helpers.’ Now, in Harvey’s wake, as we gasp at images of destruction, deluge, and despair in the faces of people we will never meet,

let us give thanks for the ‘helpers’…and let us become one.

Such a wonderful reminder of Humanity at Work. My daughter gave me a plaque several years ago and it truly touched my heart for ever. It says “Live in such a way that those who know you but don’t know God will come to know God because they know you”. Hurricane Harvey has given us all a chance to show who we are and I am so very proud to say that Texans have taken this tragedy and shown the world how compassionate we are.

Eloquent and heartfelt blog, Sharon! I am in awe daily at the way Texas (Texans) has come to the aid of their neighbors, friends, and most importantly strangers. If some one can’t see God in them, I don’t know what they see. I have never been prouder to be a Texan! Thank you for posting such a lovely tribute to those who have put the welfare of others before themselves . It give you hope that that humans have not lost their humanity and that every life is a life worth saving. This is of personal significance to me as my entire family except one nephew has been in the midst of the chaos that Harvey brought to
Houston. I am so thanks to say that as of this afternoon, God has brought them all through this safely and without flooding. We are truly blessed. Thank you for the post! So deserved!

My whole family was in the Houston area, except my nephew, so I thank you for this lovely tribute to those who gave their time and themselves and their resources to help others! I’m a little late thanking you for this post but it is no less appreciated. My family all survived well without flooding, although the water came up to my son’s backyard fence. They were all very blessed.
