After such a perilous few years, this season has certainly proven to be the “return of the festive soiree.” And I absolutely love seeing how neighbors and friends decorate their homes with their own “quintessential holiday flair.” So I was ecstatic when I visited my lovely friend, Cindy, who shared some decorating ideas sure to inspire the rest of us.
I can only describe Cindy’s style as classic and elegant (like the lady herself). Her home is already designed with exquisite antiques and heirloom pieces and is made even cozier with the addition of lights, greenery, and her own special touches. How does she do it? Here are some of her tips.
Grouping Collections
Here, in what we might call her “snug” room, Cindy displays her wonderful collection of nutcrackers. Grouping like items together makes such a huge and interesting impact in decorating.
Here, whimsical Santas are clustered together on a red metal shelf. Fun and fanciful. And below, what better place for a Christmas village than on a mirrored buffet that beautifully reflects the light of the tree.
Decorate Around your Existing Furniture
Cindy doesn’t have to move a thing. She adds a poinsettia and a runner and garland to her piano. (It does help that she already has this beautiful red oriental rug.
Add Height and Texture
Cindy is not afraid to decorate with large pieces and varies the height of her vignettes. Take a look at this stunning centerpiece.
Here are more examples of decorating with items at varying heights.
Use Items you Already Have and Simply Add to Them
Cindy’s clever trick to insert candles into her rose bowls is genius. I always assumed these cut glass vases were strictly for flowers. But, adding candles creates a magical glow.
Who would think to fold a Christmas table cloth diagonally over the back of a sofa? Cindy–of course. It adds color, texture, and a whole lot of charm to her cozy sitting room.
Add More Glitz to Something that’s Already Glitzy
Cindy doubles the sparkle of an Austrian cut crystal bowl–sitting on a mirror–by adding vintage ornaments that were handcrafted years ago by a friend. A special memory in a beautiful display.
Such a special treat to enjoy friends and visit their festive homes. Each and every one unique. Thank you, Cindy for allowing me to share your “jewel box of a home” with my readers.
Wishing all of you the Happiest Holiday ever!
