Now wait a minute. I love the idea behind Shakespeare’s quote, but some of us might like to delay the crinkling process for as long as possible. The question is, “How do we do it?” Here are few facts about wrinkles, and a few possible remedies. (And I won’t even mention costly injections or fillers.)
Wrinkles are caused by repeating facial expressions like squinting, smiling, and frowning. My co-author Janna Beatty likens it to repeatedly creasing a piece of paper over and over again in the same place. Imagine years of creasing on your skin.
“Wrinkles are a natural part of the aging process. As people get older, their skin gets thinner, drier, less elastic, and less able to protect itself from damage. This leads to wrinkles, creases, and lines on the skin.
When a person is young, the skin springs back, but as they get older, the skin loses its flexibility. Springing back becomes harder and less frequent, resulting in more permanent grooves.
Environmental factors such as smoking and sun exposure can accelerate the development of wrinkles.” …excerpt from article by Christian Nordqvist, Medical News Today
I’m probably not telling you anything you didn’t already know. But, now, I’m going to suggest some things that may help slow the wrinkling process. Have they been scientifically proven to work? No. But there is personal evidence that they do.
Sunglasses
Steve McQueen might look cool in these wire-framed aviators, but UV rays can shine in around the frames of your sunglasses, too. A larger-style frame with thicker sides may be a better bet when considering sunshades with the greatest UV benefits–and the ones that keep you squint-free, by protecting you from all angles.
According to Dr. Ava Shamban, Beverly Hills dermatologist and author of “Heal Your Skin,” there are two ways sunglasses protect your eyes: “Wearing sunglasses will prevent squinting, and thus help prevent crow’s feet. They also block out UV rays so the fragile skin around the eyes is protected from sun damage. But, the glasses must have adequate UV filters in them.”
Frownies
Frownies were created in 1889 by Margaret Kroesen when she discovered that her daughter Alice, a concert pianist, had developed unsightly frown lines. Frownies are adhesive patches designed to re-train the muscles of the face over time, to significantly diminish the appearance of deep wrinkles and lines around the eyes, mouth, and forehead. Frownies provide results without using harmful ingredients or materials.
For years, Frownies Facial Patches remained a relatively well-kept beauty secret between Broadway and Hollywood stars and their makeup artists.
” Frownies are Hollywood’s biggest secret. It’s kind of like the natural Botox…You wet it, use the adhesive, and you stick it on those little areas where you have frowns…And basically when you sleep with this, it rejuvenates the muscles in your skin, and it gets rid of those lines…You do it while you’re vacuuming, when you’re sleeping…They do work, they really work.” -Eve Pearl, Makeup Artist of ‘THE VIEW’
Very Special Eye Cream (at a Very Special Price)
You may not realize it, but the area around your eyes is more delicate than other areas of your face. As you age, the skin around the eye zone becomes thinner. Along with repeated eye movement and squinting, this zone is primed for wrinkles. Help rejuvenate and nourish this fragile eye area with Premiere Collection Very Special Eye Cream. Use day and night to:
- Moisturize and minimize the appearance of fine lines.
- Deflate the appearance of puffiness.
- Lighten shadows (dark circles) in the soft tissue under the eye.
My co-author Janna Beatty has been researching for decades to find the most effective skincare products available. Premiere Collection is the skincare line she has recommended and sold to her clients for years.

One of Janna’s longtime clients had this to say about Very Special Eye Cream:
“The first time I realized how well this eye cream works was when someone came up to me at a funeral and wanted to know why ‘I didn’t have wrinkles around my eyes like everyone else our age?'”

Diane,
Can you believe Frownies have been around for over 100 years? Those Hollywood makeup artists really DID keep them a secret!
Timely advice…three days after another birthday. Guess it’s about time I addressed my wrinkles. Thanks for the tips!
Fear not! It happens to all of us.
Happy belated birthday.
