We all know about Chip and Joanna’s amazing MAGNOLIA MARKET, located in the heart of downtown Waco. But there’s a lot more to Waco, Texas, than you might think.
Recently Houston blogger and friend, Cathy Lawdanski (My Side of 50.com), came to meet my co-author Janna Beatty in her studio at 8256 Moss Wood.
Cathy writes about style, travel, and all things “midlife.” After reviewing Quintessential Style recently on her website, Cathy was eager to meet Janna in person.
Greeted with a cup of coffee and comfy chair, Janna sets the stage for a warm and inviting visit. I told Cathy to be prepared to be wowed by Janna, whose mission is to share everything she has learned from her clients for the past 35 years.
Straight away, visitors get a tour of Janna’s studio, where areas are designated for displaying custom jewelry, makeup and skincare products, and teaching color concepts.
Janna has just wrapped up her annual fall “Scarf Swap,” which is open to everyone. Ladies bring in scarves they are no longer wearing–perhaps because of a color, pattern, or style issue. Women come to trade out, learn to tie, or discover just why one scarf may look completely stunning on them and another doesn’t.
Janna says, “The ladies end up helping each other. Once they look in the mirror and get some objective feedback, they totally see it for themselves. It’s fun, and it doesn’t cost a dime.”
Janna shows Cathy how to take a rectangular scarf and create a fitted pashmina that won’t slip off.
- Wrap scarf around shoulders, and even out on both sides.
- Pull the scarf to fit taut around shoulders.
- Tie a knot on each side where the scarf hits the inside of your elbow.
Later, we skipped down the road to the Magnolia Market silos and bakery, where Cathy took photos to include in her own blog.
The next time you’re in Waco, hop on over to one of Janna’s Open Houses…
