Quintessential Southern Style
May 17, 2019

There’s a certain grace and refinement that epitomizes Deep South Style. I just returned from a short trip to South Carolina and Georgia where I was quickly reminded that Southern Style has a charm all its own.

What ingredients contribute to this captivating allure? Well, I found a few elements that seem to be ubiquitous to timeless Southern elegance.

Savannah, Georgia…where ancient live oaks, Spanish moss and palm trees live in harmony alongside century -old architecture.

Seersucker, Madras Plaid, and Gingham

Even though Vineyard Vines apparel originated in Martha’s Vineyard. This preppy brand has become synonymous with the South, for the colorful prints and nautical vibe.
Even guys don’t mind a pink whale logo.

Lightweight fabrics like seersucker keep you cool and looking neat. They can also hide the fact that you are dripping from humidity.

Fresh Florals

Nothing beats the colorful patterns from Lily Pulitzer.

Woven Accessories

Woven bags like these are reminiscent of handmade sweetgrass baskets so popular in the deep South. The natural colors go with anything and add panache to everything.
These colorful textured earrings have a refined elegance.

Monograms and Pearls

Pearls are a classic when worn alone, but look at this monogrammed mother of pearl medallion from “Old Town Engravers.”
Pearls and Gingham…quintessentially Southern!

The Bowtie

It’s obvious that men in the South are not afraid to wear pastels.

Here are more images from Savannah, Georgia.

Mr. Style enjoyed the trip, too.

I love the woven purses/ bags. They are works of art and wonderfully made.

    Cindy,
Remember when all our moms had those great woven bejeweled bags? Darn, wish we’d kept those.
Now, I guess they are considered vintage (just like in last week’s blog.)
    Thanks for writing.
