It’s been so long since I’ve had an occasion to dress up, I’m having trouble remembering how to put a chic outfit together. Since mid-March, my wardrobe has consisted of leggings and sweatshirts. Now–it’s almost July–I can’t wait to wear white. But I’ve almost forgotten HOW to wear it!
Let’s Review Some Wardrobe Basics from Q Style…
A White/Off-White* Inside Base
The two must-haves in your wardrobe this summer should be a white tank top and white* pants. If you own
*White or off-white, depending on which color you look best in.
You can choose any light topper of your choice: kimono, cardigan, poncho, loose weave wrap, jean jacket, or linen blazer.
As we say in Quintessential Style: “A third layer piece ALWAYS elevates your look.”
“Bottoms Up” Accessorizing
Assuming you have your white/off-white pants, the one accessory you will need is a necklace that is the same color as your pants.
If you wear an accessory at your face that is the same color as the bottom half of your garment (this includes a skirt, shorts, capris, or pants), you will instantly “pull your look together,” no matter what color top you are wearing. (Page 58 of Q Style.)
TIP: IF YOU HAVE A PAIR OF JEANS YOU JUST LOVE, FIND A DENIM COLORED NECKLACE THAT BRINGS THAT SAME BLUE COLOR TO YOUR FACE!
Monochromatic Dressing
Monochromatic dressing, i.e., dressing all in one color (or even different shades of the same color), can give you an extremely sophisticated look.
AND MONOCHROMATIC DRESSING IS VERY SLIMMING! (No matter what color you choose to wear.) Because your eye moves from head to toe with no breaks.
This is why dressing in a jumpsuit always looks so slenderizing. (A “line and design” secret on page 59 of Q Style.)
Unexpected Color
Don’t shy away from unexpected color combinations in your dressing. On page 58 of Q Style, we mention some unique color pairings. Just remember, if one color looks flattering on you and another color looks flattering on you, you can wear them together!
And dressing with COLOR can add FUN and FLAIR to your outfit.
As you can see, I’ve been getting ideas from clothing catalogs. Thank you, Soft Surroundings for us homebound shoppers.
When the time comes, we’ll all be ready to pull out those outfits we’ve been dying to wear!
