Shop for Holiday Party Outfits–In YOUR OWN CLOSET
November 17, 2014

Don’t have time (or money) to spend shopping for new holiday outfits? Go straight to your closet. You can easily remix or update pieces you already have, so you’ll be party-ready.

FashionGo for Festive Colors and Fabrics:
Pull out every red, green, metallic, velvet, and shiny thing you own. (Even alternate shades of red and green will work, for example: chartreuse, maroon, wine, etc.) Be imaginative–combining pieces in ways you never have before.

Think outside your usual box:
-Consider ivory as your neutral base, instead of black.
-Add a large green (or holiday plaid) satin bow to the waist of a red dress.
-Tack a ring of marabou or faux fur, or add jewels around the neckline of your cashmere sweater. Tip: Choose slacks or a skirt in the same color as your neck accessory, to create an ensemble look…Janna’s bottoms-up rule. (See photo at left.)
-Pile on the bling. Instead of wearing pearls, wear all your pearls. Rather than one bracelet, wear an armload. Got several holiday brooches–wear two or three together. (I love grouping a collection of snowflake pins on my red coat.)
