Actually, it’s both. The Pantone Color Institute, which sees contemporary life and culture through color, has declared PERIWINKLE to be the 2022 Color of the Year.
Daphne Alexander of Goodnet.org says:
“It reflects everyone’s wish for a fresh start and exciting creative possibilities for the year ahead.“
We probably could have wished that for any color chosen, after the year we’ve had.
Pantone calls their version “Very Peri.” And you will be seeing it pretty much everywhere this year.

Periwinkle can be very flattering. Especially for spring.

You must admit, there’s just some periwinkle that simply astounds!
What do you think about “Very Peri”? Is it for you?
You know I always love hearing your comments.

I’ve always loved the color periwinkle especially for flowers and clothes but I probably would not paint an entire room that color. When I was in my 30’s I had a periwinkle dress I loved that I kept around too long! Periwinkle is a soft and soothing color for me, but I prefer it in small doses now.
Thank you for always keeping us up to date on the latest trends!
Sherry,
Sounds like that periwinkle dress made you FEEL simply beautiful.
You make a great point that sometimes we get enamored with a color, but as time goes by, our tastes change.
Many thanks for your thought-provoking comment.
Periwinkle has been my favorite color for years!!! I am thrilled that much of my wardrobe will be “IN”!!! I wonder if the hubs would let me paint the Aspen wood wall in our bedroom! Probably not…
Laura,
I’m with you. I already have several “very peri” garments in my closet. Sometimes a trendy color works great for an individual–sometimes not (read Hilde’s comment).
About that aspen wood wall (sounds brilliant)…perhaps you could hang a beautiful Water Lily painting by Monet to incorporate a little periwinkle!
Since I’m a black, red, white person I’m pretty sure I won’t be wearing Periwinkle! I do have a sprinkle of turquoise though!
Hilde,
I love that you know yourself so well that trends don’t phase you. Fashion implies trends, but STYLE is about how you use (or don’t) use trends to your individual advantage.
Thanks for being “quintessential” Hilde…the one and only!
I wish I could wear this color, because I think it is lovely. I have even bought several periwinkle tops always hopeful, but I never feel like they look as nice on me as they did on the hanger.
Sharon,
Sometimes the “color of the moment” isn’t the most complimentary to wear. If you really love periwinkle, maybe an accessory or an accent for your home (like a pillow) is the answer.
Thanks so much for your comment.
