Easy Autumn Centerpiece using Trays, Platters, and Boards
October 26, 2020

These days small, intimate dinners are becoming the new mode of entertaining. But, even if you’re only inviting a few friends over, don’t forget to decorate the table.

You needn’t spend a fortune to create an autumnal masterpiece–with texture, color, warmth, and whimsy.

Start with a tray, platter, or board as your base.

I chose this large, galvanized tray as the base for my centerpiece.

Use what you have.

I bought a bag of small pumpkins in different sizes and textures at the grocery store (for about $5), then I added things I had around the house:

  • real pumpkins
  • fabric pumpkins
  • candles
  • silk leaves
  • decorative beads
  • raffia or burlap
  • flowers

Layer your materials.

I scattered leaves, added real pumpkins in a cluster, and tucked in my fabric pumpkins in. Keep it random, tilt pumpkins on their sides. Add a candle, flowers–whatever you have.

This burlap bird was just hanging out in my closet.
Spooky whimsy.
Incorporate some flowers.
My finished product.
Don’t forget the sparkle!

Yikes! I hope my meal tastes as good as this table looks.

Your decorations always look so lovely. I did not do a platter this year, but now I am inspired. Thank you for reminding me how beautiful they can be.

The thing is, Sharon, we all have a large platter or board to use as our base.
Christmas is coming, so bring out your trays and fill them with colorful balls and ornaments!

    Lita,
You can even mound up halloween candy, candles, and anything black and orange for a spooky centerpiece.

    Carla,
The key to this centerpiece is to keep it contained on a board or platter. Just cluster all your like items together…mound them up to create a lot of texture, color, and whimsy!
    Thanks for writing.
